Joey Veerman Rangers transfer news as Heerenveen eye 'possible successor' to wantaway midfielder

Heerenveen are reportedly eyeing a "possible successor" to Rangers -linked Joey Veerman.

The midfielder has been at the heart of a classic transfer saga with the Eredivisie club this summer.

Veerman has grown frustrated with the club's £8.5million asking price with the Scottish Premiership champions and Serie A outfit Hellas Verona said to be among the interested parties.

But according to voetballprimeur.nl, they could now be planning for life after the 22-year-old.

The Dutch website state Den Bosch teenager Ringo Meerveld has caught Heerenveen's attention.

Meerveld is billed as a potential replacement for Veerman with uncertainty still lingering over whether he will stay put beyond the transfer deadline.

At the weekend, he again voiced his discontent with Heerenveen's apparent refusal to budge on their valuation.

He said: “I think you are worth as much as the clubs offer.

“They have offered half of €10m. I don’t think you can say that I have to be sold for €10m.

I get that question every week but I seriously can’t answer.

“There is nothing going on.

“There is interest, but for the rest it is up to Heerenveen to respond to it.

“I have often said that I want to take the next step, so I think that’s clear too.”
