Joey Veerman in Rangers transfer revival as Heerenveen will 'happily' sell long term Steven Gerrard target

Heerenveen insist they'd gladly sell Rangers target Joey Veerman, but insist they've had nothing like a fair offer for their star man.

The Dutch midfielder has been linked with the Premiership champions all summer, with interest also coming from Serie A.

Last week Steven Gerrard completed the signing of Juninho Bacuna, adding a midfield reinforcement for the Ibrox club's title defence.

But Rangers could still land Veerman if they can come up with the right offer, with Heerenveen insisting they're more than happy to sell.

That could well come down to star turn Glen Kamara's future - but the Finland international is in talks over penning a long-term Ibrox extension.

Sporting director Cees Roozemond told De Telegraaf: "The bids that arrived weren't interesting for us.

"The offers that I see being bandied about never came to us or he'd have been sold three times already.

"We'd happily grant Joey a transfer, we really want to give him that chance but it's also just a quiet transfer window.

"There is no (financial) need, even now that we are working on the sale of Mitchell van Bergen to Middlesbrough.

"We've come through the Covid year pretty well from a financial point of view.

"We are very happy with Joey, because he is a fantastic footballer.

"And let's be honest: last year we extended his contract with both parties."
