In-demand Joey Veerman has urged Heerenveen to allow him to move to Serie A amid links with a move to Rangers.
Steven Gerrard had been a reported admirer of the classy 22-year-old who scored seven goals and assisted a further ten in the Eredivisie last season.
Those performances have caught the eye of clubs across Europe and Hellas Verona have made the first move for the playmaker according to reports in the Netherlands.
The wantaway midfielder has now told Dutch outlet Leeuwarder Courant that a move to Italy is his preferred option, with a €5 million offer on the table from the Italians.
Veerman said when asked about his view on the Verona bid: "I would like to take this step, yes.
“Hellas Verona seems like a very nice club. They finished tenth in Serie A last season. Moreover, Verona is a beautiful city, ten-minute drive from Lake Garda. I used to go there on holiday.
“It is exciting. But we will see what will happen. I hope that a club will soon reach an agreement with Heerenveen.”
The Holland Under-21 cap has refused to rule out a move to another league, but believes the time is right for him to leave his homeland.
Veerman added: “I’ve been here for two years now and I really enjoyed it during that period. But I’ll be 23 soon.
"Then it’s time for a nice step in my career. I feel like I’m ready for that too."
