Joey Hunt’s return gives Seahawks offensive line much needed depth

A high-ankle sprain has kept Seattle Seahawks backup center Joey Hunt on the inactive list for each of Seattle’s first two games this season.

Now, with Ethan Pocic (neck) listed as doubtful for Sunday, Hunt’s return could not come at a more perfect time.

“He did bounce back in practice,” coach Pete Carroll said on Friday. “He made it through the week and did just fine. He’s ready to play.”

Hunt has been Seattle’s backup center for two seasons, a role that went to Pocic while Hunt was on the shelf.

Pocic was needed at both guard spots as well however, a role Hunt may need to take over with Phil Haynes and Jordan Simmons both unable to suit up.

Carroll is confident that Hunt, who filled in at guard a little last season, is up to the task.

“Joey’s [Hunt] worked hard at that so that he can give that to us,” Carroll continued. “If we needed to make that kind of choice, Joey can jump in there.”

Seattle’s inactive report will come out roughly 90 minutes before the game on Sunday, so we will have more information at that time.
