Joey Essex leaves Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield red-faced as he shows them up over age comments

Joey Essex was left feeling smug after he showed up Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on This Morning.

The reality star grinned after the famous presenting duo attempted to catch him out over his age.

When quizzed on his age, Essex clarified that he was 28 and would be 30 next year.

Pulling up the star on his basic maths Willoughby declared: “No you’re not, you’re 28!”

“Yes so I’m 30 next year,” Essex insisted.

Schofield added: “What about 29?”

Willoughby then asked if he was “skipping that one”.

A bemused Essex then explained: “29 is this year though! Did I just trick you? How did you not realise that?”

Shocked: The pair couldn't believe they had been outsmarted (This Morning/ITV)

Bursting into hysterics the embarrassed duo flushed bright red as they realised their error.

Willoughby then declared: “Oh my God! That’s one of my favourite things that’s ever happened.”

The gaffe left viewers at home in stitches as they took to social media to share their amusement.

One user wrote: “When Joey Essex outsmarts Holly & Phil..”

Another added: “Don’t watch the show often but Phil and Holly are hilarious especially interviewing Joey Essex.”

“Phil and Holly have just been outwitted on simple maths by Joey Essex,” a third commented.

Holly Willoughby accuses Phillip Schofield of 'betraying her trust' on This Morning

In an eventful broadcast, Schofield was forced to clean up dog faeces live on air after a guest dog from an animal shelter made a mess on the carpet.

Schofield politely pulled tissues from a box as a worker at the shelter spoke to the pair, with Willoughby adding that it happens when dogs are “nervous”.

This Morning airs weekdays on ITV from 10.30am
