The anger and disappointment was clear Sunday in Joey Bosa's eyes, the Chargers rookie standing inside a quiet locker room in Kansas City, irked by the team's loss to the Chiefs and sickened by his vantage point for it.
He was on the sideline.
"It hurt that I knew I couldn't do anything to help them," Bosa said Monday. "The score started to get closer, and obviously guys were getting tired, and they could have used help from really anybody. To know I wasn't able to go in and help my teammates win the game, it definitely hurt."
His frustration remains.
The Chargers held their first practice of the week Wednesday. Bosa, sidelined by a hamstring strain, was not cleared to participate in the padded session. This likely all but rules him out for Sunday's home opener against the Jaguars.
Bosa, 21, has yet to practice in pads.
His only practice with the team since June 8 came Aug. 30, a day after a prolonged contract dispute between him and the team formally ended with his signing. Since then, he's largely been limited to physical rehab and mental reps.
It seems clear Bosa is eager to help his teammates and play football again. Likewise, the Chargers hope to get their No. 3 overall pick on the field once they can deem him ready.
That wasn't Wednesday.
Bosa's wait will continue.
