Joey Barton reveals why Bristol Rovers have signed Sylvester Jasper on loan from Fulham

Joey Barton believes Sylvester Jasper will get the supporters on the edge of their seats after the club confirmed the winger has joined from Fulham.

Bristol Live revealed this morning the talent was set to sign on a season-long loan to kick off what could be a busy day for Rovers and manager Barton in regards to potential incomings.

Jasper, 20, spent the second half of last season with Scottish side Hibernian following a successful stint in League Two with Colchester although was not deemed part of Marco Silva's plans in the Premier League this campaign.

Revealing why Barton opted to make a move for the winger, he said: "It’s no secret we’ve been in the market for wide players and Syl fits the profile of what we’ve been looking for. He’s a young, hungry, dynamic winger and I hope he will excite our fans with his style of play.”

Barton’s squad has lacked width following the summer departure of Sam Nicholson, while Luke Thomas and Elliot Anderson returned to their parent clubs and although the Gas would have liked to have re-signed the duo, they have since played their way into first-team thinking.

Jasper scored three goals over 40 appearances for the Us and Hibs last season, including the 1-1 draw against the Gas in Essex in October. A product of the Fulham academy since the age of 11, having started with QPR, the Londoner has been capped at Under-21 level by Bulgaria, qualifying for the country through his Bulgarian mother.

Barton will now hope to turn his attention to signing at least one centre-back following James Connolly's injury, a left-back and another striker with Middlesbrough's Josh Coburn also set to join on loan.
