Joey Barton responds to Jadon Sancho speaking in German accent during interview

Former England midfielder Joey Barton has reacted to Jadon Sancho appearing to give an interview in a German accent.

Borussia Dortmund winger Sancho spoke to the Norwegian press with teammate Erling Haaland after a 4-0 thrashing of derby rivals Schalke on Saturday.

The 20-year-old amusingly seemed to speak English with a noticeable German accent, harking back to a similar stunt Barton pulled in 2012.

While on loan at Marseille from Queens Park Rangers, Barton famously gave an interview in English with a clear French twang.

Sancho's latest antics have not escaped the ex-Fleetwood Town manager's attention and he took to social media to respond.

Quoting a tweet containing Sancho's interview on Twitter, Barton wrote: "Don’t worry Sancho. Happens to the best of us..." and added crying with laughter emojis.

Sancho opened the scoring and assisted the first of Haaland's two goals - a stunning acrobatic effort - as Dortmund cruised to victory in the Revierderby.

“I know for this club that this game is everything,” said Sancho in his post-match interview.

“So I knew today that was a big one for the fans. Especially because they can’t celebrate it with us, I had to show to the camera that it was very important to us.

“I’m just very happy and delighted for the win. We just have to carry on this form for the next game.”

Dortmund's victory leaves them sixth in the Bundesliga after a mixed season so far.

The German giants sacked manager Lucien Favre in December but Sancho is enjoying another excellent campaign at Westfalenstadion.

The Three Lions star has contributed 10 goals and 15 assists in 29 appearances in all competitions and continues to shine on either wing or in attacking midfield.

Manchester United were heavily linked with Sancho last year but may have an alternative transfer plan this summer.
