Joey Barton in FA Cup shocker as Rangers flop sees 'dreadful' Bristol Rovers stunned by non league Boreham Wood

Joey Barton's Bristol Rovers have suffered a dismal 2-0 loss to non-league Boreham Wood in the FA Cup as the former Rangers midfielder crashes out of the tournament.

The ex-Ibrox battler has forged a career in management since hanging up his boots in 2017, and has been Rovers boss since 2021. His team are mid-table in League One and he's recruited Celtic invincible Scott Sinclair to help him in that pursuit, but they've been given a major reality check after a good run of one loss in 13 matches across all competitions.

He made four changes at half-time as Will Evans and and David Stephens put the National League side - who sit 44 places below their weekend opponents - into a surprise two-goal lead. They had just two shots on target in a display rated "dreadful" by Bristol Live and they tumbled out of the cup at the second round prior to Premier League sides entering the fray. Sinclair played the full 90 minutes but no magic was sparked.

Barton arrived at Rangers in 2016 but was back at Burnley less than a year after swapping Turf Moor for Ibrox after a disappointing spell in light blue.
