Joey Barton and second man charged with attack near golf club

  • Former footballer Joey Barton has been charged with section 18 wounding with intent by Merseyside Police.
  • Barton, 43, from Widnes, was charged alongside Gary O’Grady, 50, from Huyton.
  • The charges relate to an incident near Huyton and Prescot Golf Club on Sunday evening, where a man suffered serious injuries to his face and body.
  • The injured man is currently in a serious but stable condition in hospital.
  • Barton and O’Grady are scheduled to appear at Wirral Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday afternoon.
