Former Newcastle United favourite Joey Barton joined Bristol Rovers players in shaving their heads for teammate Nick Anderton.
In July last year, the left-back was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. Less than 600 people are revealed to have the condition in the UK each year.
Treatment in October to remove a tumour was thought to have been successful. However, two months later, Anderton suffered a setback when the cancerous cells were found to be more aggressive than initially thought.

The discovery meant Anderton - who signed for Rovers in 2021 - began chemotherapy treatment. His teammates showed solidarity with the 26-year-old by shaving their heads to raise money for a fundraiser.
That included manager Barton, who also donated £1,000 to Anderton’s cause. The former Toon midfielder said: “It will keep the wolves from the door and allow him to focus on his recovery.
“He's got a new baby in the house as well, so it's the minimum we can do and we're thankful to everybody who has donated or shared and raised awareness. Every pound, every penny will make a difference in terms of helping Nick with his recovery.”
Anderton himself was overwhelmed on social media, insisting he was “lost for words” at the selfless gesture. He tweeted: “The best group of people, what a club! The support we've received since the news in July up until now has been incredible. Lost for words Bristol Rovers. Thank you.”
