Joelinton's team-mate convinced Newcastle United transfer won't be last step

Newcastle United will not be the 'last step' for Joelinton, according to Hoffenheim captain Kevin Vogt, who believes the Brazilian is destined to be a big hit in the Premier League.

The Magpies are hoping to tie up a club-record deal for the 22-year-old after watching him extensively last season and Hoffenheim claimed the deal was on the 'home stretch' on Saturday.

Steve Bruce has few options up front following the departures of Salomon Rondon , Ayoze Perez and Joselu . With Dwight Gayle injured, Yoshinori Muto started both of Newcastle's Premier League Asia Trophy games up top.

Joelinton withdrew from Hoffenheim's squad for their pre-season friendly against Jahn Regensburg on Wednesday ahead of completing his move to St James' Park and Vogt is predicting a very bright future for his friend.

"As long as he remains healthy, I'm convinced that this is not his last step. I wish him well too, because he is a really great guy," he said.

Upbeat and with a good sense of humour, Joelinton proved a popular team-mate at Hoffenheim after adjusting to life in Europe following a two-year loan spell at Rapid Vienna.

The Brazilian, who played against Man City in the Champions League, scored 11 goals for Die Kraichgauer and will now be tasked with leading the line in Bruce's new-look frontline.

Miguel Almiron will also have a big role to play and is due to return to Benton for medical tests next week after some time off following his involvement in the Copa America.
