Joelinton returns to Newcastle United training but Magpies cancel friendly rematch

Newcastle United striker Joelinton is back in training with the Magpies.

The Brazilian is understood to have been in isolation after a summer break in a Covid-19 zone in Mykonos.

The Magpies have not commented on the matter in public but the £40million man was pictured back at Benton, along with Yoshinori Muto - who the club are attempting to sell this summer.

Sources close to Joelinton were approached by Chronicle Live about his absence in the last three friendly games but simply said: "Ask the club."

Joelinton has just one game to get himself fit for the trip to West Ham United a week on Saturday.

Whether the former Hoffenheim striker faces Stoke City on Saturday remains to be seen.

But one player that will be absent is Jamaal Lascelles after his red card against Boro in the 5-1 loss on Tuesday.

A United statement read: "The Potters travel to St. James' Park for a 1pm (BST) kick-off in what will be United's last warm-up match ahead of the Premier League season starting seven days later.

"It has been confirmed that a proposed training match against Middlesbrough will now not take place.

"Jamaal Lascelles will miss Saturday's game as he serves a one-match ban following his red card against Boro on Tuesday, but he will return for the big kick-off at the London Stadium."
