Joelinton replaces Callum Wilson as Matty Longstaff returns to bench - Newcastle United team news

Newcastle United's £40million man Joelinton returned to the starting line-up to replace injured Callum Wilson against Manchester City.

The Brazilian forward led the line and got the nod ahead of Dwight Gayle and Andy Carroll.

Wilson was ruled out for the final three games of the campaign after picking up a hamstring injury in the 4-2 win over Leicester City last Friday.

Bruce only made one change to the side that beat the Foxes but there was a return to the bench for Matty Longstaff.

The youngster had not appeared since January in the 3-0 defeat at Arsenal.

Before the game Steve Bruce said in his programme notes: "Beating last season's points tally is definitely achievable and we can get our highest total since returning to the Premier League four years ago.

"That will be a big ask but it's got to be the aim."

UNITED : Dubravka, Murphy, Dummett, Fernandez, Krafth, Ritchie, Shelvey, Willock, Almiron, Saint-Maximin, Joelinton

Subs: Gillespie, Clark, Manquillo, Lewis, M Longstaff, S Longstaff, Hendrick, Gayle, Carroll
