Joelinton reacts to taking Newcastle United No.9 shirt

Joelinton has revealed he is not daunted after being handed the number 9 shirt.

The Brazilian forward arrives on Tyneside after scoring just seven goals in the Bundesliga.

But Newcastle feel they have paid for his potential at £40million.

When asked about the move, Joelinton said: "I am really happy about this, it is tremendous trust and faith to give me the legendary number 9 shirt.

"I will help my team-mates on the pitch.

"It's a really big club with a huge tradition.

"I have watched the Premier League since I was little.

"I really hope to make progress here."

Joelinton then played down any comparisons with Roberto Firmino who left Germany and has turned into a real star with Liverpool.

He said: "We're a different type of player..

"Firmino plays at 10 as he does for Liverpool.

"I have always been a 9.

"I like to put the comparisons with Bobby to one side.

"I'd like to make my own history here."

But he indicated he was ready to to pull on a black and white shirt.

He said: "I have been training in pre-season with Hoffenheim.

"Today was tough but I am feeling good and I am really happy to be here."
