Joelinton pictured in Newcastle United shirt ahead of £40million club record switch from Hoffenheim

Newcastle United will announce a record-breaking deal for striker Joelinton as they kick off their summer recruitment with the biggest transfer in the club’s history.

in the club’s home shirt after the Magpies agreed a £40million deal for the striker. That smashes the previous barrier held by Michael Owen – but which could have been beaten by the winter deal for Miguel Almiron depending on certain stipulations being met.

Joelinton has been given a tour of St James’ Park and an announcement is imminent for the deal that Newcastle have been working on for months.

Steve Bruce and Lee Charnley were also at the stadium ahead of the deal being confirmed in what is the first of several deals the club hope to tie up.

The 22-year-old Hoffenheim striker will arrive as the club’s new number nine and will lead the line in the place of Salomon Rondon, who has moved to China since his loan period ended. He is well thought of in Germany and the transfer is a coup for Newcastle, who are desperate to turn the tide after a very difficult summer.

Indeed Newcastle are understood to working on striking a second deal, which could even be confirmed before the club head to Preston for their third pre-season friendly of the summer.
