Joelinton misses out on friendly as club refuse to comment on COVID isolation claims

Newcastle United striker Joelinton was missing from the starting line-up for their pre-season against Barnsley.

The Brazilian striker has not trained this week and the club have refused to comment on reports he is isolating after a summer holiday in Greece.

The Magpies were forced to name Andy Carroll in attack for the second game running with Yoshinori Muto transfer-listed and Dwight Gayle injured.

Karl Darlow started the game in goal and Jeff Hendrick was handed his debut in a black and white shirt for the behind closed doors affair.

The game also sees Sean Longstaff pushed up to a more advanced role.

United will make several changes at half-time this afternoon.

UNITED : Darlow, Krafth, Fernandez, Clark, Dummett, Shelvey, Hayden, Hendrick, Ritchie, S Longstaff, Carroll.
