Joel Tomkins ban double that of Zak Hardaker's following firey confrontation

Catalans Dragons forward Joel Tomkins has been suspended for four matches by an independent disciplinary tribunal.

Tomkins was charged with a Grade D punching offence by the Rugby Football League's Match Review Panel following an incident with Zak Hardaker during Saturday's game with Wigan in Perpignan, after Hardaker had head-butted Tomkins' younger brother, Sam.

The forward pleaded guilty to the offence, but challenged the severity of the grading. However, it was upheld by the tribunal, and the forward will now miss Catalans' next four matches. Hardaker was suspended for two matches for his part in the incident after being shown a straight red card during the game itself.

Castleford Tigers forward George Griffin will serve a one-match ban after unsuccessfully challenging the Match Review Panel’s verdict of a Grade B dangerous contact charge with an opponent during their defeat to Leeds Rhinos on Friday night.

Wakefield forward Matty Ashurst was suspended for two games following a dangerous throw during their victory against Huddersfield, while the Giants' James Gavet will also miss their next match, after being banned for one game due to a raised knee in the tackle.
