Joel Matip makes Ibrahima Konate admission and drops Liverpool future hint

Liverpool defender Joel Matip remains 'really comfortable' and 'honoured' to represent Liverpool while praising the impact of £36m summer signing Ibrahima Konate.

Matip has been back to his best this season for Jurgen Klopp's side as they chase an unprecedented quadruple. The German only featured 32 times in the past two seasons but has already made 37 appearances this season, helping the Reds with one goal and two assists in the Premier League.

“If I met some people, they are always great to me and some of my team-mates remember me from time to time and they send me some pictures and other things,” he said.

“But I’m really honoured and happy to just be part of the club and that the people like me is the biggest plus and it makes me feel really comfortable and like home here again.”

Part of the reason Matip has been able to stay fit and feature regularly for the Reds this season due to Klopp's rotation policy with Konate, who has stepped up in recent weeks and scored crucial goals in the UEFA Champions League. Matip praised the French defender for his recent impact.

“Ibra did it great, so no reason why he should not play also too, especially with my history of injuries, it also fitted quite good with my situation,” said Matip.
