Liverpool are unsure when Joel Matip will return to action.
The centre-back has played in just one of the Reds' last five matches - against Manchester United in a 1-1 draw .
His absence has been put down to a knee injury suffered against Sheffield United - a problem which has recurred since that trip to Old Trafford.
Reports on Monday suggested the former Cameroon international would be facing up to six weeks on the sideline, meaning he could miss as many as 10 games, including Manchester City, the Merseyside derby and all three remaining Champions League group fixtures.
The ECHO understands Liverpool are currently unsure about a time frame regarding Matip's return from injury.
The defender is not yet ready to return to training as his knee is still sore and needs treatment in the form of rehabilitation and physiotherapy.
