Joel Matip injured against West Brom as Liverpool problems continue

Liverpool have suffered another injury blow after Joel Matip was forced off midway through the second half against West Brom.

The centre-back immediately signalled to the bench after clearing an attack from the Baggies shortly before the hour mark.

Matip has suffered what early indications suggest is a groin injury and he was quickly replaced by Rhys Williams.

It's the latest in a series of issues for a defender whose game-time has been carefully managed given the lack of senior options at centre-half this term

The former Schalke man has been limited to just 10 appearances from the 23 games the Reds have played in all competitions so far.

Matip was withdrawn at half time in the recent draw with Fulham and missed the 2-1 win over Tottenham at Anfield on December 17 with a back problem.

Matip will be assessed by Liverpool's medical department ahead of their trip to Newcastle on December 30.

Any absence will leave Klopp down to just Fabinho, Williams and fellow rookie Nat Phillips as centre-back options.
