Joel Klatt drops Ohio State after win over Indiana

Joel Klatt was in person to watch and call the game in Columbus as Ohio State took on a top-10 Indiana Hoosier team. The Buckeyes started lightning fast when Justin Fields connected with Garrett Wilson on two plays for an opening-drive touchdown.

After that, the Buckeyes offense sputtered before a surge that built a 28-7 lead at halftime. However, OSU was outplayed in the second half and let the Hoosiers back in the game before hanging on for a seven-point victory after being favored by almost three touchdowns.

Personally, I thought that was way too high of a spread for a team ranked No. 9 in the country. From top to bottom, Ohio State didn’t play its best game. Questionable play calls from the coaching staff, Justin Fields making head-scratching throws, a secondary getting lit up for almost 500 yards passing… it wasn’t a good look for a team that is supposed to be in the upper echelon.

Apparently, Klatt wasn’t impressed with what he saw in person either. Klatt dropped the Buckeyes to No. 3 and moved Notre Dame, who was idle yesterday, to No. 2 this week.

The Buckeyes definitely have some work to do and a short time to do it. We’ll find out Tuesday where the College Football Playoff committee sees Ohio State in the national picture.

I’d predict a No. 3 ranking, but it’s anybody’s guess after a sub-par performance yesterday.
