Joel Glazer's Tom Brady Super Bowl comments hint at new Man Utd transfer policy

The Glazer family are celebrating Super Bowl success after the Manchester United owners watched the Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat the Kansas City Chiefs overnight.

United are hoping to win their first Premier League title since 2013, but the Glazer’s other team have now ended their 18-year wait to lift American Football’s biggest prize.

The Bucs went into Super Bowl LV as the underdogs, but ran out 31-9 winners in their home stadium in Florida.

Legendary quarterback Tom Brady lifted his seventh Vince Lombardi trophy, in his first season with the club after the Glazers sanctioned a move to sign him.

Aged 43, Brady was coming off an illustrious two decade stint with the New England Patriots.

But when he became available in the off-season, the Bucs made a move and it’s reaped immediate benefits, with United co-owner Joel Glazer claiming his arrival had a huge impact on their success.

"I've got to say, I've got to start by saluting all the healthcare workers here. They're the real champions!" Glazer said in the post-match interview.

"Now to our great fans: We did it at home. My father had an expression, if you want to know the road ahead, ask the person that's been there.

"We found that person. Ten Super Bowl appearances, seven victories... Tom Brady."

Under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, United have opted to sign younger players with a potential to grow and improve while at Old Trafford.

But Solskjaer did change tack in the summer window, when he signed 33-year-old Edinson Cavani on a free.

The Uruguayan has had a similarly galvanising effect, with Solskjaer admitting that Brady's feats are something he is keeping a close eye on, keeping a close dialogue open with the club's owners.

“I think when you operate at the top you try to widen your horizon and have a network you speak to and I’m very pleased for the Glazers and the owners that they play the Super Bowl this weekend,” the United boss said last week.

“For me, the big learning from that is the Tom Brady story, what he does to keep going at such an age and to be so professional, he’s come into the club and brought them to the Super Bowl.

“We’ve got the example of Edinson coming into our place and how much one player can influence a team,” he added. “We’ve had Eric Cantona coming into the team with that experience.

“So Tom Brady is an example for every sportsman out there that it’s still possible at the age of 42 or 43, whatever he is now. But yeah, we do keep the dialogue between ourselves.”
