Joel Glazer's Man Utd transfer promise as Cristiano Ronaldo made available for £25m

Joel Glazer recently promised Manchester United fans he will back the club with "significant investment".

And he may be ready to put his money where his mouth is now that Cristiano Ronaldo has been made available for just £25million, according to reports.

Glazer addressed the Red Devils fans back in June, before the club splashed out big bucks on Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane.

He said: "We want this club to always be successful and win trophies. To compete for trophies requires significant investment.

"The commercial growth at the club has helped deliver the revenue which ultimately underpins that investment in a sustainable manner.

"That approach has allowed us to have among the highest net transfer spend in world football over the last five years and have one of the highest wage bills."

He also promised to pump money into Old Trafford.

Glazer added: "Old Trafford is at the heart of Manchester United and while we have spent over £100m over the last 10 years on infrastructure projects.

"We will now accelerate the process of planning much more significant investment and upgrades to the stadium. Rest assured, we will consult with supporters throughout the process to end up with a result we can all be proud of."

As aforementioned, Glazer has kept his word with Man United splashing out on Sancho and Varane this summer, but Ronaldo remains a target and could be signed at a cut-price.

Ronaldo was fit to feature for Juventus on Sunday in their Serie A opener with Udinese, but he allegedly made a request to Max Allegri to be left out of the starting XI.

Juventus vice-president Pavel Nedved played down speculation of problems between the player and club, telling DAZN: "Do not look for sensational things when there aren't any.

"It was a joint decision with the coach because we're at the start of the season and it is normal that he's not fully fit."

But Ronaldo's agent Jorge Mendez is believed to have been offering his client to potential buyers, with reports in Italy suggesting the Portugal international could be sold for as little as £25million.

Ronaldo has previously discussed the idea of a United return, telling the press in 2014: "I love Manchester. Everyone knows that. Manchester is in my heart.

"The supporters are amazing and I wish I can come back one day."
