Joel Embiid asked 76ers fans to support Ben Simmons even though he wants out: ‘He’s still our brother’

It has been a rough few months in Philadelphia for the 76ers. Ben Simmons’ trade demand has thrown a wrench in just about everything.

Simmons and the team seemed to peace things up on Friday when the two sides finally spoke to one another. I can tell you right now, though, that doesn’t mean a thing to 76ers fans.

They are not feeling Simmons right now. At all. There’s absolutely no love for Ben there right now. Just look at what they were doing to Simmons’ jerseys ahead of the game. They were even wearing t-shirts that were clowning the Sixers’ point guard.

That didn’t stop Joel Embiid from voicing his support for his teammate, though. At the 76ers home opener, Embiid told 76ers fans they’ve still got to support him and the team.

“A lot has happened these last few months and I urge you guys to continue to support us and our teammate, Ben, because he still our brother. Let’s go.”

That was nice. A bit awkward, for sure. But still a very nice gesture. And it might go a long way in convincing Simmons to actually get back on the court and play.

I guess we’ll see how Sixers’ fans respond to this. It probably ain’t enough to stop the boos from flying for Simmons when he returns, but hey. At least Embiid tried.
