Joel Bitonio on who will start at LT for Browns: ‘I think they’re figuring that out’

Could there be a changing of the guard — err, tackle — coming to the Cleveland Browns offensive line? Based on what left guard Joel Bitonio said on Monday, change could indeed be coming at left tackle.

After the team’s first practice following the bye week, Bitonio was asked about who will play left tackle against the New England Patriots on Sunday.

“I think they’re figuring that out,” Bitonio told reporters.

That’s an interesting comment from the team captain and greybeard of the offense.

Greg Robinson has not performed as well as hoped in his second season as the left tackle. However, Robinson has been better than right tackle Chris Hubbard, notably in pass protection. Backup tackle Kendall Lamm played primarily on the left side during his days with the Houston Texans. Lamm injured his knee in Week 1 but could be back for the New England game.

Rookie Drew Forbes is not eligible to be activated from injured reserve until Week 10 against the Buffalo Bills, but he offers another potential option if the coaching staff continues to ponder a change down the road.
