Joe Worrall transfer update as Nottingham Forest face fight for Manchester City teenager

Southampton are understood to have Nottingham Forest centre-back Joe Worrall on their radar as the end of the transfer window nears.

The 24-year-old has been the subject of plenty of Premier League interest this summer, and came close to joining Brentford before the start of the season.

Burnley are long-standing admirers, while West Ham United, Norwich City and Crystal Palace have all eyed him up to various degrees - albeit interest appears to have coolled in recent weeks.

The Saints are in need of a defender, having lost Jannik Vestergaard to Leicester City, and Worrall is believed to have caught their eye, along with a number of other potential targets. As it stands, that is as far as it has gone for the time being, however.

Transfer tussle

Nottingham Forest are facing competition to sign Manchester City youngster Morgan Rogers before the summer transfer window closes.

The Reds have been tracking the 19-year-old for some time, but are not the only ones interested in securing his services.

Rogers was at the City Ground on Saturday, watching Forest lose 2-1 at home to Bournemouth. But that is not believed to be an indicator a deal is necessarily close, with the versatile attacker having got to know Brennan Johnson while the two were on loan at Lincoln City last season.

Indeed, The Sun claim the Cherries are among those eyeing up the teenager, currently making "a big push" to bring him in on loan. Blackburn Rovers have also been linked with a move and Crystal Palace were reportedly keen to sign him permanently.

Redevelopment latest

Chairman Nicholas Randall QC says Nottingham Forest still hope to get planning permission for the redevelopment of the City Ground by the end of the summer.

Work had been due to begin 12 months ago, starting with knocking down and rebuilding the Peter Taylor Stand. But that was put on hold due to delays in the planning process.

The club then submitted their revised planning application to Rushcliffe Borough Council in June, with a decision yet to be made.

Owner Evangelos Marinakis has already spent more than £2million directly related to the plans, and Randall has provided an update on the project’s progress.

Done deal

Nottingham Forest have confirmed the departure of midfielder Fouad Bachirou on a free transfer to Cypriot side Omonia Nicosia.

The 31-year-old signed a two-year deal when he made the switch to the City Ground 12 months ago from Malmo.

But injury hampered his time Trentside and he fell down the pecking order, making just three appearances in the Garibaldi.

He was one of four players not part of boss Chris Hughton’s plans and told they could move on this summer, with Harry Arter and Carl Jenkinson also in the same position. Gaetan Bong had been part of that group too, before being drafted back into the fold amid a left-back crisis - only to then pick up a three-game ban for an incident against Coventry City.
