Joe Willock's amusing revelation to parents about Newcastle fans and what he noticed about players

Joe Willock can't wait to be part of the Newcastle United 'family' after being left 'scared' by how the club's supporters were 'on top' of him during his Premier League debut for Arsenal at St James' Park in 2018.

The 21-year-old has joined the the black-and-whites on loan until the end of the season in an effort to get more game time in the top-flight.

Although Newcastle have plenty of options in the middle of the park, Steve Bruce has wanted to bring in a box-to-box midfielder for some time now and the Magpies' head coach already has a plan in place for Willock.

Willock could make his Newcastle debut against Southampton at the weekend but, sadly, of course, there will be no fans present inside St James' on Saturday.

Premier League squad values after transfer window

It goes without saying that Willock would dearly love to have tens of thousands of Geordies cheering him on after readily admitting he was 'so scared' during his first top-flight appearance for Arsenal 'because of the fans'.

"I remember going back and telling my Mum and Dad that it felt like the fans were on top of my head and I've never experienced that before," Willock told NUFC TV about his memories of Arsenal's 2-1 defeat nearly three years ago.

"Even up to now, I've never really had that atmosphere in a stadium like we have here in Newcastle so that was something that was very encouraging for me.

"I just love to play football. I love the way they play. I think it's a really good fit for me."

Willock only completed his move to Newcastle on deadline day so the new arrival was unable to play in the Magpies' 2-1 defeat against Crystal Palace less than 24 hours later.

However, Willock was among the prvileged few taking in the game from the stands and the Londoner already has an idea of what to expect from his new team-mates after watching the black-and-whites' win at Everton last week.

"We had a game the same day against Man United so I was watching it in the hotel room and I remember Callum Wilson wheeling away when he scored," he added.

"That's something that I can see in this team as well when I was looking at it from the outskirts. I can see that they have a lot of courage. It looks like a family - they all want to fight for each other - and I would love to be a part of that."
