Joe Willock on matching Alan Shearer and his Newcastle future

Joe Willock has spoken of his delight after joining Alan Shearer in the record books.

Willock made it seven goals in seven games after scoring at Craven Cottage and made it eight for the season since arriving on loan from Arsenal.

The midfielder now returns to Arsenal after a strong spell away from the Emirates Stadium.

Speaking to BBC Match of the Day he spoke of his honour at joining Shearer in the history books.

He said: "To be in his company, I’m honoured.

"And that it's happened for this wonderful club.

"He has often messaged me to congratulate me and I’m sure he’ll be happy for me."

Newcastle's rise from the bottom half of the table coincided with Willock's form.

He said: "When we were going through our tough period, we said we would stick together and we've done that really well."

When asked about his future, Willock stated he would wait and see what comes next.

Willock said: "We’ll see what the future holds.

"I’m blessed to have had the opportunity to play for this wonderful club and I’m happy it’s gone so well.
