Joe Willock: How much he cost, when he will make debut and what squad number he will wear

Joe Willock is the second most expensive player in Newcastle United's club history.

The Magpies have stated the fee was undisclosed but Chronicle Live understands the deal - worth £25million - surpasses the fee paid for Miguel Almiron and only Joelinton at £40million cost more.

Newcastle spent five days negotiating a six-year deal for Willock after a successful loan spell last season when the player scored eight times when arriving from Arsenal.

A United statement also confirmed Willock's squad number and when he will make his debut, the Magpies say: "Joe Willock will wear the number 28 shirt for the 2021/22 season – the same squad number he occupied last season.

"The club can confirm that he will be available for selection for next week’s Premier League match against Aston Villa."

Steve Bruce said: "I want to thank Lee Charnley in particular for the work he has put in to make the deal happen.

"The club have gone above and beyond to make it possible.

"Joe is a wonderful young player with all the attributes you want in a midfielder, and he certainly proved that during his time with us last season."
