Joe Williams leaves Everton after sealing transfer deal

Joe Williams has completed a permanent move to Wigan Athletic.

Everton agreed a fee with the Championship club on Tuesday after an initial bid had been rejected over the weekend.

Williams finalised personal terms and put pen to paper on the switch earlier today.

The 22-year-old was wanted by other Championship clubs as well as sides in Bundesliga but chose to make the move to the DW Stadium where he joins up with Antonee Robinson, who left the Blues for Wigan earlier this summer in a deal worth around £2m.

Everton and Wigan have not disclosed the fee they agreed on for Williams but it is thought the midfielder will have cost more than Robinson.

Williams had spent the start of pre-season with Marco Silva's first-team and scored the eqaulising goal against Kariobangi Sharks in the opening friendly of the summer in Kenya.

But with Andre Gomes returning on a permanent basis and Fabian Delph arriving from Manchester City, Williams was expecting to find chances hard to come by.
