Joe Wicks taught Welsh by fans as crowds turn up for Cardiff run

Crowds of runners turned out to join Joe Wicks as he ran through the streets of Cardiff.

The fitness guru, also known as 'The Body Coach', had been calling for his fans to join him for the early morning run as part of his UK tour for his new children's book The Burpee Bears.

On his Instagram story, Joe posted saying "Cardiff I'm coming for you. Friday morning I'm waking up in Cardiff. I'll be doing a 5km run starting at 7am here..."

The run started at the Havannah Street car park at 7am this morning where the dad-of-two was met by dozens of fans ready to run alongside him.

Before the run started the fitness coach took a minute to thank the crowds for setting their alarms to get up and join him so early.

Joe said: "I'm on this tour, it's quite lonely - I'm not with my family and friends and I wake up on my own but I know that someone is going to be here and I get to meet someone and have a chat and have a laugh and it's amazing."

This morning he documented his run, posting an update to his followers at just over the 3k mark and said: "Wales, what a turn out - look at them!

"We've done 3.5k, we're on track, we started it together and we're gonna finish it together."

On his Instagram story he said: "I'm learning a bit of Welsh and I'm going to say good morning Cardiff - bore da Cardiff, bore da!"

Joe and his fans completed the 5.3k in 33 minutes.

The fitness coach posted a group picture to his Instagram story thanking fans for joining him.

Joe is currently travelling across the UK for two weeks to promote his new kids book The Burpee Bears.

During the coronavirus lockdown, he became a hero as he dedicated his time to keeping the nation's children fit while schools were closed.

He hosted live PE lessons for pupils and families on his YouTube channel.
