Joe Wicks reveals his mental health struggle has left him feeling "powerless" in open video

Body coach Joe Wicks has opened up about how the pandemic has started to take a toll on his mental health in recent weeks.

Joe became known as 'the nations PE teacher' during the early months of Britain's lockdown with daily workout videos which were designed to keep both young and old fit, physically and mentally.

However, in a heartfelt message to his 3.8m Instagram followers, the father of two revealed how the latest restrictions implemented by Boris Johnson at the end of September were starting to have an effect on his own mental health:

Joe opens up in his Instagram video, which was shared on Loose Women (Loose Women | ITV)

"I can really feel, for the first time, this is starting to take an effect on my mental health, it's really bringing me down.

"I'm finding hard to be positive, I'm finding it confusing, I feel like I can't even understand, I can't even comprehend where the end is.

"That feeling of powerlessness and confusion is quite a hard thing to deal with.

"I'm finding it hard to film workouts because I'm finding it hard to be optimistic."

Speaking to the Loose Women panel during the ITV 'Get Britain Talking' campaign week, Joe elaborated on his Instagram video: "I was just having a moment after watching the Boris Johnson press conference and I was just like, if I say something about this now, maybe it will help someone else.

Joe Wicks reveals the reason why he opened up about mental health to the Loose Women panel (Loose Women | ITV)

"I didn't realise how many people would see it... but I'm really glad I shared that video.

"The realisation that this isn't something that is going to disappear over night... now I'm just living in the moment, day to day."

When asked if he would return to do PE videos, Joe said: "If we go into lockdown again, I will be back, 9am, every day!"

Loose Women returns at 11am every weekday on ITV.
