Right after the 2019 NFL draft, it sounded like Joe Theismann wouldn’t mind No. 15 overall pick Dwayne Haskins donning his No. 7 — but he wanted to get to know him first.
Fast forward hardly any time at all, it sounds like a passing of the torch has occurred. According to The Athletic’s Grant Paulsen, a phone call ironed out this topic in a hurry.
Theismann never sounded hesitant on this topic at all, but given the legendary status of his number and history with the Redskins, it was understandable the front office was never in a hurry to give out his number.
And Redskins fans should take note Haskins reached out and wanted to ask Theismann personally — he didn’t have to make that leap.
So solidifies one of the first official — and most important — Redskins rookie draft class jersey numbers.
