Joe Staley, Mike McGlinchey miss Day 1 of mandatory mini-camp

An injury-free mandatory mini-camp would’ve been ideal for the 49ers. That wasn’t the case though with both starting tackles missing Day 1 of the three-day session with minor injuries. Mike McGlinchey is dealing with a knee issue, while Joe Staley battles through a pec strain. Both players are expected to be ready for training camp.

This appears to be another case of the 49ers’ training staff ensuring injured players take it easy in order to be ready for camp. Having starters healthy at the start of the preseason is more important than having them on the field for the three-day minicamp in the middle of June.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see a similar philosophy carry into training camp with starters slowly returning from injury to make sure the 49ers have a fully healthy roster for the regular season.

McGlinchey and Staley are both vital to the 49ers this season, and having two healthy tackles is perhaps the most important aspect of the 49ers’ offense outside of Jimmy Garoppolo. The team is going to take every measure to have them ready by the season opener on Sept. 8.
