Joe Staley doubtful, Deebo Samuel & DJ Jones to play vs. Panthers

The 49ers didn’t get any surprises on their injury report for Week 8 against the Panthers. Left tackle Joe Staley was officially listed as ‘doubtful,’ while wide receiver Deebo Samuel and defensive tackle DJ Jones aren’t on the injury report after missing Week 7 with groin and hamstring injuries, respectively.

Defensive end Dee Ford was limited all week with a quad injury, but he was not on the injury report either.

It would be a little bit of a surprise if Staley worked his way onto the field after recovering from a broken fibula in Week 2. The 49ers play on a short week in Arizona on Thursday night, so rushing Staley back ahead of a short week doesn’t track with the conservative nature of their training staff throughout the offseason.

Marquise Goodwin didn’t practice Thursday or Friday as he deals with a personal matter. Head coach Kyle Shanahan declined to specify what Goodwin is working through, but noted that if the team played Saturday, Goodwin would not have been there.

Here is the official injury report for Sunday vs. Carolina:

Out

CB Ahkello Witherspoon (foot)
OT Mike McGlinchey (knee)
FB Kyle Juszczyk (knee)

Doubtful

OT Joe Staley (fibula)

Questionable

RB Raheem Mostert (knee)
WR Marquise Goodwin (personal)
TE Levine Toilolo (groin)
