Joe Shaughnessy admits transfer window concern as St Mirren youngsters continue to impress

Joe Shaughnessy says it would be no surprise to him if St Mirren ’s young talents are interesting other clubs.

The Buddies’ resurgent form has been forged on the back of youngsters like Conor McCarthy, Jake Doyle-Hayes and Ethan Erhahon.

Defender Shaughnessy admits he’s looking forward to the current transfer window shutting with the hope that they will all still be pulling on the stripes for the rest of the season.

He said: “The way the boys have been playing they’re always going to get attention.

“You just have to hope that they can see what we’re building here at the club and be happy to stay.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if clubs make a move, but hopefully they’ll all be here come the end of January.

“The Brophy signing shows the ambition of the club. It shows we’re really not happy just to survive in the league, we want to kick on.

“That sort of signing, if you’re to believe that he had other options as well at bigger clubs, it’s a huge boost.

“The manager said he had other coaches texting him saying what a good player he is. That’s a great sign for us.”
