Joe Rodon says he got away with two mistakes in his full Tottenham Hotspur debut on Sunday evening.
The Welshman started for Spurs in their top-of-the-table London derby with Chelsea, keeping a clean sheet to help Jose Mourinho's men return to the summit with a goalless draw.
But Rodon was quick to point out two mistakes he made within the game, claiming he 'got away' with the errors and vowing to learn from the experience when.
“It’s a tough place to come, and to come here and make my debut is a dream come true," he told Sky Sports after the game. "Hopefully I can have a successful season.
“It’s a great opposition and I knew I’d have a tough night. I got away with two mistakes, but I’ll learn from it and come back strong."
Asked to expand on the mistakes and whether moments were 'heart in mouth', the Welshman replied: "Yeah, to be fair.
"It’s a massive game in the league and you’re up against top players, and these mistakes aren’t acceptable.
“It’s my job to put my head and body on the line and like I say, I’ve taken one but it’s part of the job and I love it.
“We chatted before the game, we always wanted to go into the game and get the three points, but sometimes you have to dig in and get the clean sheet, take the point and move on.”
Rodon had an almighty task against Chelsea with the Blues scoring more than any other team in their first nine Premier League games, armed with the likes of Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Tammy Abraham.
But the 23-year-old defended firmly alongside Eric Dier, enjoying an impressive full debut and he will now be hoping to keep his place for the North London derby with Arsenal next weekend.
Rodon's boss Mourinho gave his verdict on the defender after the game, saying: "It’s difficult, but he showed good personality.
"I want to analyse the game step-by-step with him, but from my fast analysis during the non-stop 90 minutes, I got one mistake that ended with an offside goal, and another one with a back-header to Hugo that found Giroud.
"After that, he was solid, he was brave, comfortable, and that for me, is an important thing.
"You compare the two teams, and you look at the two centre-backs and you say, Thiago Silva coming from an amazing career at the highest level, and Joe Rodon coming from Swansea in the Championship - I have to be happy with the kid.”
