Joe Rodon's first words as a Tottenham player after sealing transfer from Swansea City

Joe Rodon is hoping having the familiar figures of Gareth Bale and Ben Davies by his side can help him achieve success at Tottenham after completing a "dream" move to north London.

Wales international centre-back Rodon has signed a five-year contract with Spurs after signing on domestic transfer deadline day from Swansea City for a fee of £11m plus add-ons.

The 22-year-old has enjoyed two strong seasons with the Swans where he has emerged as one of the brightest and most consistent defensive talents outside of the Premier League, but his experience is all within the EFL.

Making the transition from his hometown club to the top-flight and a new city won't be easy but with Wales teammates Davies and Bale in position, that sense of comradeship will surely aid the process.

"It’s a great story and to join Ben here now is even better for me," said Rodon."Ben and Gareth are two massive players for Wales, and hopefully they can help me settle in quickly and make me feel even more welcome. Yes, that was a big part for me. Hopefully, it all goes perfectly.

"As everyone knows, Jose Mourinho is one of the biggest managers in the world, and all I can do is be excited, learn every day and hopefully take it all on board.

"I’m not looking too far, just to take each day as it comes, hopefully improve and become a better player, and take it from there."

Rodon, who will wear the No14 jersey, will join Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez, Toby Alderweireld and Japhet Tanganga as Jose Mourinho's centre-back options for the 2020/21 season.

Dier's injury sustained on England duty, which has left him a doubt for Sunday's game with West Ham, exposed the fragility in depth in the centre of defence but Rodon's addition provides suitable reinforcements.

It should allow him to develop behind the scenes without the burden of being an automatic first-choice.

"It hasn’t really hit me yet," he added. "It’s a massive honour. This is a massive club, and I can’t wait to get started... coming from my boyhood club to this position is only something I could have dreamed of. It’s been a great week and to finish it off in this way is a dream come true.

"I always loved playing football, and here I am. It’s what every kid wants to do. I used to go to the park and play football every day, you just grow to love it."
