Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon isn’t shying away from making bold claims about the 2019 season.
Mixon, like many other Bengals players after their first encounter with new head coach Zac Taylor in a practice setting, has come away impressed with the direction of the team.
In a video posted by Mark Slaughter of WLWT, Mixon casually guarantees a playoff berth next season: “Of course. Nothing but great results. Like I said, I’m going to guarantee us playoffs. … Coach Taylor is going to have us right.”
Taylor’s staff is going out of its way to explain things to all players instead of simply telling them what to do, and many Bengals players are praising the approach.
Mixon, though, is bolder than most. Simply righting the ship after a flirtation with the worst statistical defense of all time would be a good place for the Bengals to start. Beyond that, they’ll need a coherent offensive line that’s asking a rookie to play left tackle effectively and Bobby Hart to play better on the right side.
But Mixon’s confidence is at least admirable. The breath of fresh air that comes with a new head coach for the first time in 16 years means fans and players have some leeway for positive vibes.
Mixon, as always, doesn’t have any problems being the vocal leader.
