Joe McKee thanks Dumbarton for getting his career back on track as he leaves the Sons

Joe McKee has thanked Dumbarton for helping him get his career back on track.

The midfielder officially left the Sons at the end of his contract having become a key player - finishing the shortened season as one of the country’s leading creators.

Having joined last July following his release from Falkirk, McKee admitted that he'd fallen out of love with the game - however 15 assists and two goals in 29 games later he had his mojo back, and it’s something he’s grateful to the Sons for.

Joe told the Lennox: “The club were brilliant for me, they helped me get back to enjoying my football again.

“The season was maybe slightly frustrating in that we didn’t achieve more, but the gaffer, Hagi (Jim Duffy’s assistant Craig McPherson) and Barry Smith were fantastic and we had a really good group of boys.

“The fans were great too and I really appreciated the support they gave us, I really enjoyed my time at Dumbarton and I wish everyone there all the best.”

McKee was one of nine players to leave the club at the end of their contracts, with player of the year Kyle Hutton and top scorer Isaac Layne joined by number one goalkeeper Conor Brennan, Lewis Crawford, Jordan Pettigrew, Callum Wilson, Jai Quitongo and Ryan Tierney in leaving the side.

There was more positive contract news earlier in the week however, with forwards PJ Crossan and Robert Jones joining skipper Stuart Carswell in inking extended deals for the new campaign.
