Joe McElderry to live stream concert from Customs House and donate proceeds to charity

Joe McElderry will perform a special concert on home turf on Wednesday night which will be streamed into the homes of his fans and to patients in South Tyneside Hospital.

Like other artists like John Legend and Chris Martin, Joe has reacted to the outbreak of coronavirus, which has prompted events like Glastonbury and Eurovision to be cancelled and many music tours to be postponed, by doing something to entertain fans as the country is told to avoid 'non essential social contact'.

He will take to the stage at The Customs House in his native South Shields at 7.30pm, with fans wanting to watch asked to donate to his Go Fund Me page, with proceeds going to The Customs House charity and Acting For Others.

Acting for Others provides financial and emotional support to all theatre workers in times of need through the 14 member charities.

Joe said: "I'm completely aware that this is a scary and turbulent time for everyone. So I’ve decided to put on a gig to keep us all joined up together and singing, of course!

"I’ll be doing this in segregation at the Customs House, South Shields where I started off as the dishwasher over 10 years ago!

"Most importantly this is for all of you – all you got to do is enjoy and send your messages and of course song suggestions! Let’s keep singing!"

You can access the performance HERE and donate on GoFundMe HERE.

On Wednesday afternoon Joe updated fans with news about the stream into the hospital, posting "Update  #liveintoyourlounge  we have now worked a way to broadcast live into South Tyneside Hospital for the patients and staff to hear on hospital radio at this tricky time!"
