Joe Marler publishes three-word tweet in response to storm over grabbing Alun Wyn Jones’ genitals

Joe Marler has seemingly responded to the storm caused by grabbing Alun Wyn Jones' genitals on Saturday with an expletive-ridden tweet.

Footage showing Marler grabbing the Wales captain's genitals during the Six Nations clash at Twickenham has prompted a furious debate, with the on-field incident having been missed by all officials, including the TMO.

Jones was left stunned by the contact as he tried to separate players following a melee, and has called on World Rugby to act .

Marler could actually face a ban for his actions, with the low-end entry point for grabbing, twisting or squeezing the genitals under law 9.27 in World Rugby's laws being a 12-week ban. A mid-range entry point would be 18 weeks, top-end would be 24-plus weeks and the maximum is 208 weeks.

The England and Harlequins prop has now taken to Twitter after the furore, writing: "B*****ks. Complete b*****ks."

The incident has provoked plenty of debate over how serious the incident should be taken.

Former World Cup referee Jonathan Kaplan believes the officials erred by not sending Joe Marler to the bin, while former England captain Will Carling has dubbed Marler's actions "an intended humorous wind up".

Wales captain Jones said post-match: “I’ve got 138 Tests for my country. If I react, I get a red card. It’s tough, isn’t it?

“Hopefully World Rugby have a look at it. Joe’s a good bloke, lots of things happen on a rugby field.

“It’s difficult as a captain these days because you can’t speak to a ref about anything, it feels.

“I look at the touch judge, obviously he didn’t see what happened and that’s fine.

“There’s a lot of footage that has been shown, it seems like a lot of supporters saw what happened.

“It’s very frustrating that we talk a lot about TMOs and footage reviews, yet there doesn’t seem to be a lot of it happening.”
