US star Joe Manganiello revealed he has been discovering his Irish roots during his trip to Ireland with his wife Sofia Vergara - after finding out his ancestors hailed from Co. Cork.
The American actor and his Modern Family star wife have been spotted enjoying scenic trips around Ireland in recent weeks, as he’s here to film a new TV show.
Manganiello has now revealed his shock and amazement that he discovered his family roots trace back to the Rebel county, just before he was ‘serendipitously’ offered a job in Ireland.
“In a surprise turn of events, I found out last year that my brother and I were significantly Irish and then serendipitously, I wound up getting offered a great job in Ireland,” he explained.
“Well, this past weekend I had some time off from the show and flew Sofía over to join me in exploring the land of my ancestors… Cork.”
Sharing photos from his trip to Instagram, the 44-year-old added: “As you can see we ventured out to Schull and Mizen Head stopping by to pay respects to the 3,000 year old Drombeg stone Druid Circle.”
He went on: “The critically acclaimed series, Finding Your Roots is currently putting together my family tree including the specifics to my Irish heritage along with the rest of my complicated blood line… so stay tuned for an announcement of the air date and time.”
“In the meantime enjoy these pics… ”, he added.
The couple visited some of the sights with their beloved chihuahua Bubbles, whom they adopted from the Los Angeles shelter Dogs Without Borders back in 2019.
Joe is currently in Ireland filming his role as Earth diplomat right-hand man Tomm Schultz in AMC‘s upcoming utopian drama series, Moonhaven. Peter Ocko’s suspense thriller also stars The Lord of the Rings alum Dominic Monaghan as local detective Paul Serno, according to reports from Deadline.
