Joe Manganiello Reveals Insights On His Deathstroke Character Journey

Joe Manganiello American actor

Joe Manganiello, known for his role as Flash Thompson in Spider-Man (2002), has had an interesting journey in the world of superhero films. Despite his initial foray into the DCEU not quite panning out as expected, Manganiello recently shared some insights into his experiences with the franchise.

In a recent interview, Manganiello revealed that DC Studios CEO James Gunn provided him with valuable advice that helped him come to terms with letting go of a creative project involving his portrayal of Deathstroke. Manganiello had written a screenplay for a Deathstroke origin film, which was intended to be turned into a graphic novel series by DC Comics. However, uncertainties regarding his involvement in potential adaptations led him to ultimately abandon the project.

Manganiello's portrayal of Deathstroke first appeared in a post-credits scene for the 2017 film 'Justice League.' Despite setbacks, he reprised the role in Zack Snyder's Justice League in 2021. Originally cast to play the villain in Ben Affleck's standalone Batman film, Manganiello's character was set up for a confrontation with the Dark Knight in a scene that was ultimately scrapped.

Unexpectedly, Manganiello found himself back in the role of Deathstroke, thanks to his appearance in Zack Snyder's version of 'Justice League.' The character's encounter with Batman was hinted at in a scene where Lex Luthor reveals Batman's true identity to Deathstroke.

On a different note, fans of Manganiello can catch him as the host of the upcoming game show 'Deal or No Deal Island,' set to premiere on NBC on February 26 at 9:30 p.m. EST. The show will also be available for streaming on Peacock the following day, with Howie Mandel serving as one of its executive producers.
