Joe Lycett pens fake resignation letter from Nadine Dorries leaving fans in stitches

Comedian Joe Lycett has written a spoof letter from cabinet minister Nadine Dorries to Boris Johnson, where she takes him to task over a sub-par bottle opener.

Joe, 34, who has form in parodying governmental procedure, published the letter on his Twitter soon before it was widely reported that Johnson will quit the top job, after a mass exodus from his government, with Jonson later confirming his resignation in a speech outside No. 10 Downing Street.

Dorries, Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, is one of the Tory MPs in top jobs who stayed loyal to the prime minister until the bitter end.

Joe in his comedic letter, imagines that the gaffe-prone cabinet secretary demands Johnson buys her another bottle opener, after the one he got her was not up to the job.

Sharing the letter, headed to resemble official parliamentary paper, Joe wrote: "BREAKING: Nadine Dorries letter to the Prime Minister this morning."

The letter reads: "Dear Prime Minister, It is with deep sadness that I have reached the conclusion this is not working. I have made honest efforts to resolve the difficulties but it has become clear this morning that I am unable to proceed further.

"I would like to thank you for purchasing the PoptheTop automatic bottle opener for me last week.

"I was very grateful for this and for many things you have done for me, but I believe you have not purchased the correct bottle opener.

"I was looking to open a bottle of 'I Heart Pinot Grigio' I got from Tesco last night and discovered the PoptheTop bottle opener is actually only half designed to open traditional beer bottle or Coca Cola or J20 Apple and Mango.

"It has been the honour of my life working in your government. I still believe and stand by you.

"But I would like you to reconsider and maybe purchase the Cuisinart CW050U Electric Wine Opener which is £50 in John Lewis and has a 3 year guarantee and free delivery, or Le Creuset LM20 Lever Corkscrew but that is £95and looks confusing to me.

The letter concludes: "Please replace the PoptheTop automatic bottle opener which doesn't even work on the Grolsch bottles which have the metal clasp."

The post on Twitter has already received more than 20,000 likes.

In January, the comedian allegedly caused chaos in Parliament after he leaked a Sue Gray parody report about the Downing Street lockdown parties.

On his Twitter profile, Joe posted a letter with the Cabinet Office letterhead, writing: "BREAKING: Leaked Sue Gray report reveals shocking abuse of the rules. Hard to see how the PM can cling on after this."

The "main findings" included that "A number of WhatsApp groups were established to organise gatherings, which titles included 'Definitely A Meeting' and 'Down It Street'".

Joe later shared an anonymous message from someone who works in Parliament for the Tories, telling him the spoof letter was "read as an actual serious leak from Sue Gray's report", leading to staff "running around panicking".
