Joe Lolley on Leeds, West Brom and Nottingham Forest's promotion chances

Nottingham Forest star Joe Lolley has been talking about the race for promotion to the Premier League.

The Reds are among a host of clubs battling for a place in the top flight next season, with the Sky Bet Championship promotion race about to enter it’s final months.

Sabri Lamouchi’s side are currently in fifth place in the league standings, four points adrift of the automatic promotion places.

West Bromwich Albion, who drew with the Reds at the weekend, are at the top of the table, while Leeds United occupy the place in the top two.

Fulham, Brentford and Preston North End make up the rest of the top six, alongside Forest, while clubs like Bristol City, Blackburn Rovers and Cardiff City will not feel out of the running.

Lolley was asked about the race of promotion to the top flight, and believes there are plenty of clubs who will feel they have a chance of playing Premier League football next season.

“It’s just crazy when you look at the league,” Lolley told the EFL Podcast, prior to Saturday’s draw with West Brom.

He added: “Every team in that bracket will be thinking ‘why not us, why can’t we be promoted?’

“And probably even teams below that will be looking at the points that have been dropped, and think if they can put a run together of three, four or five wins then they will be right up there as well.

“It’s not about keeping your cool and staying consistent, and that team will prove to be successful.”

In mid-December, Forest were 13 points adrift of the automatic promotions spots, with Leeds and West Brom establishing a sizeable lead at the top.

But both clubs have dropped points since the turn of the year, and Lolley admits he did not expect both Albion and Leeds to drop as many points as they have.

“Realistically, I wasn’t really concentrating on their results,” said Lolley. “Especially early on, you don’t really look at (other) results too much.

“Once you go 11 points clear, with two teams of their quality, you don’t expect them to keep dropping points which they had done.

“It’s brilliant for the likes of us and other teams around us, and we put a very strong run together as well and put ourselves right back up there.

“So it makes for a pretty exciting end.”
