Joe Ledley set for Kenny Miller's Newcastle Jets as ex-Celtic stars join forces

Former Celtic midfielder Joe Ledley is set to link up with Kenny Miller in Australia, as Newcastle Jets reportedly close in on a move for the 33-year-old.

Miller retired from football earlier this month after leaving Partick Thistle, and was named technical director at the A-League side within a week.

He linked up with former Wolves team-mate Carl Robinson who had just been appointed manager, and the two have set about rebuilding a squad that boasts a few familiar names - including on-loan Hearts defender Bobby Burns and former Livingston and Norwich City star Wes Hoolahan.

And according to Australian outlet the Newcastle Herald, there could be even more UK interest within the squad before the month is out, with free agent Ledley set to join imminently.

Ledley and Miller are both well-known names at Celtic having each spent time at Parkhead, and although they never played together, they faced off as rivals while Miller was at Rangers.

Ledley would spend three-and-a-half seasons with the Hoops, making 157 appearances before joining Crystal Palace in January 2014.

Having since featured for Derby and Charlton Athletic, he has been without a club since the end of January.

Nonetheless it seems Miller is well aware of what he can bring to the table, and could make him the first signing of his tenure down under.

Jets sit second in the A-League standings but trail Sydney FC by 14 points at the 27-game mark.
