Joe Hugill in line for Manchester United first team call up, says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Former Sunderland striker Joe Hugill could be in line for a call up to Manchester United's first team after scoring four times for the Red Devils U23s against Liverpool.

The 17-year-old has been in scintillating form this season scoring 14 times, six of which came for the under-18s, with the others coming playing for the under-23s.

Hugill joined Manchester United from Sunderland in the summer of 2020 and had made a big impression at Old Trafford.

His performance against Liverpool overshadowed new £36million signing Amad Diallo - the former Black Cats striker even gave United's new man the ball to convert a penalty, when he could have netted his fifth.

Hugill's form has not gone unnoticed by first-team manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who is looking forward to watching his development.

At a press conference, Solskjaer said: "We’re gonna give him the time to settle in.

"If we go from that game [vs Liverpool], I’d pick Joe Hugill.

He added: "Four goals by Hugill, he’s a top striker as well, we’re looking forward to seeing his development.

"Amad gets a good start and why Joe didn’t take the penalty himself to get five goals I’m going to ask him."
