Joe Hart has spoken about why Tottenham found it so difficult to play against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final last weekend.
Spurs actually gave it a good go against the Premier League leaders at Wembley Stadium, despite heading into the clash as underdogs, after Jose Mourinho's sacking just days before.
But Aymeric Laporte's header with just eight minutes to go settled the tie to ensure Tottenham's trophy drought continued, and that wasn't the last of Manchester City's big wins in the last week.
This evening, City produced a stunning comeback against PSG away from home in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final tie, thanks to goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez.
Former City man Hart watched on from the bench as Spurs lost to the Citizens in the Cup final, and he was on punditry duty for BT Sport on Wednesday night to see their masterclass in Paris.
And before the game, he provided some interesting insight on why it is so difficult to face Guardiola's men.
“It’s tough," he said. "We can’t just say we’re going to take the ball from them and they don’t touch it for 90 minutes. You’ve got to accept they’re going to have the ball.
"You need to control the areas and manoeuvre them into positions where you’re going to be stronger, you’re going to have a lot of numbers.
"You need to defend well and you need to take your chances - really simple. It’s simple if you come up as a game-plan, but it’s tough to do it.”
Hart left Manchester City in 2018 after winning two Premier League titles, and he joined Tottenham last summer after a spell with Burnley, but he is yet to register a Premier League appearance, largely featuring in cup competitions.
